January Bead Journal Project

Just finished my January Bead Journal Project. My inspiration was a branch of yellow flowers with barnacle like leaves. The piece is 6 inches X 4 inches. It is worked on commercial fabric and backed with ultra suede. Some of the barnacle like flowers are crocheted and some are beaded using peyote stitch. Some of the fronds are embroidered with metallic thread and some are beaded using bead embroidery. I have included keishi pearls, abalone and citrine chips and sequins. The pointed cabochon was lampworked and faceted by my husband, Greg Hanson. The piece was originally made to be viewed in the position of the upper photo.
It can also be viewed in the opposite direction as seen below.
Now on to February..........................

  4. This is a very beautiful and well thought out piece. I do like your multimedia and multistitch approach. I've learnt something here too, a better way to attach chips, thankyou. I've just signed up as a Follower.

  8. Very stunning and elegant! Love this piece, for some reason it really draws me but I can't put my finger on a particular reason... especially love the background you used.

  9. The combination of the earthy colors, beaded and crocheted "pods", embroidered "tendrils" and flow of the design are so lovely, Marcie!!! I like viewing it both ways, but have a slight preference for the unintended way as it feel like the whole beautiful, organic life force is flowing into my lap or my hands. Bravo!!! Robin A.

  10. Let my just add my gushing admiration of your work too: GORgeous! I especially like the treatment of beadwork along the one side of the piece. I guess it contributes to the sense of movement.

  11. I also love the flow of this piece but I'm not sure the photo does the colors justice?
(I know it's really dark this time of year, but it's such a beautiful piece I'm sorry to not be able to appreciate it fully...)

  12. Hi, Marcie- A long time ago I took a pine needle basket workshop with you, and still treasure the experience. I made a number of beaded baskets, and hope to do more. I'm seriously involved in kitemaking these days, but have an itch to return to making baskets, and of course, beading. I am so glad to find you are still creating such beautiful things.
